FORMAT

 

- Existing technology for videocassette playback is increasingly rare. Proper care and maintenance of these machines is crucial to the utility of the cassettes themselves. Before using or loaning your cassettes, it is necessary to ensure that all machines are in proper, working order.

 

 

 

 

- Acclimation to room temperature is recommended before playback once cassettes are removed from temperature-controlled storage areas.  Dramatic environmental changes can cause the magnetic tape inside the cassette to become altered in shape, length or flexibility.  For instance, the National Media Laboratory recommends an acclimation time of 2 hours for a VHS videocassette before attempting to playback.
